New System Links Cell Phones, Lock Systems

The long-held- promise of mobile technology linking with guestroom lock systems may finally be coming to fruition. At last fall's International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show in New York, OpenWays introduced new technology the firm says will eliminate the need for most guests to check in at the front desk to get keycards. The system will send messages to incoming, pre-registered guests' cell phones with their room numbers. The phone then becomes the keycard, providing access for the guests to their rooms.
